We discovered works by Auguste Labouret
quite by accident, whilst looking for windows by
French maître-verriers, François Décorchemont
and Gabriel Loire.
Auguste Labouret was born in Laon in France in
1871, and was a founding member of the
Sociétaire du Salon d'Automne and the Société
des Artistes Décorateurs.
A prolific artist and mosaicist, Labouret
developed the dalle de verre technique in
France in the early 1930s, exhibiting a window
of St Christopher in the Pavilion du Vitrail at the
Paris exhibition of 1937. In 1939, Labouret
designed and made the first dalle window in
North America, for the Chapel of the Shrine of
St Anne of Beaupre, in Quebec.
